Larry (woodnbits on twitter) apparently has a similar saw and fence.  He gave me a simple piece of advice that sounds like it might just work: Push the fence forward against the saw while locking it down.  This will release any pressure on the back rail hook, and if the fence is properly aligned, it should straighten out.

I'm definitely going to try this next time I get into the shop.  Thanks, Larry!</description>
